Abul Hassan Ali al-Masudi, a Muslim of Baghdad traveled and gathered his learning into a 30 volume encyclopedia. Al-Masudi surveyed omnivorously the geography, biology, history, customs, religion, science, philosophy, and literature of all lands from China to France and wrote a book of information. He first suggested in this book evolution from mineral to plant, plant to animal, and from animal to man.
