God says in the Quran 5:55

Only Allah is your Wali & His Messenger ﷺ & those totally committed , who keep up prayers and pay the poor-rate while they bow.

The word Mawla is derived from the root و ل ي (waliولي ): It does not only mean ‘master’ in the Quran. It has different shades of meaning depending on the context. When used as an attribute of God, it can also mean ‘Protector’ as well as ‘Master / Lord’. It also means ‘heir’, ‘friend’, ‘guardian’ ‘helper’ & ‘protector’ Allah decides to give portions of His guardianship to chosen personalities among His creation.
Allah is saying in the Quran:
I (Allah) is the Independent Protecting Friend or Wali, but if I choose I may give portions of my Protective Friendship to a chosen believer on Earth.
Allah now transfers this Protective Friendship or Wilayat in totality to the Prophet ‎ﷺ‎‬not as an independent but as a dependant most excellent slave of Allah . Is this in the Quran? Yes! Allah says.
To you we have We granted the Abundance.
Allah has blessed him abundantly & says He will bless him until he is pleased. The flow of blessings is continuous.
& those who believe…
